The Expert Behind This Guide

Michael Durant

Poker Analyst & Affiliate Content Specialist

I've been playing online poker professionally and semi-professionally for over nine years. Based in Ontario, I transitioned to the sweepstakes poker space in 2021 when Global Poker significantly expanded its Canadian player base — and I've been tracking the platform closely ever since.

Before building this site, I spent seven years reviewing real-money poker rooms for three different Canadian gambling guides. When the sweepstakes model matured enough to offer genuine prize potential, I shifted focus to document it comprehensively for Canadian players who deserved a dedicated, honest resource.

How I Work

Editorial Standards & Methodology

✓Active platform use: I maintain an active Global Poker account and play weekly to verify what I write.

✓Data-driven: Tournament stats, traffic numbers, and win rates are verified against available public data and personal tracking.

✓Affiliate disclosure: All partnership links are disclosed. Commission relationships never influence editorial ratings.

✓Regular updates: Pages are reviewed quarterly. Major platform changes trigger immediate updates.

✓Canadian focus: All content is written for Canadian players — province-specific rules, Interac payments, and PIPEDA compliance.

📢 Affiliate Disclosure

global-poker.ca earns a referral commission when you register at Global Poker through our links. This is standard affiliate marketing and is fully disclosed per CASL guidelines. Our commissions come from VGW Holdings, not from your gameplay or losses. We are financially independent from the platform we review, which allows us to be objective in our assessments.
